HOW CAN EATING PIZZA SAVE SOLDIERS' LIVES and BRING JOBS TO NORTHERN MICHIGAN?
(The SAVE SOLDIERS and BRING JOBS TO MICHIGAN by EATING PIZZA, fundraiser)
Traverse City, Michigan, 10/12/07 - G's Pizzeria and Deli is hosting a fundraiser on Monday October 22nd from 5 pm to 9 pm. G's will be donating a portion of the sales and tips for that evening to send AIM team members Linda and Tom Graham to the DARPA Urban Challenge Race in Victorville California.
The DARPA Urban Challenge is a race for driverless vehicles sponsored by the Department of Defense with cash prizes of 3.5 million dollars. But even more important the technology demonstrated by this race will save the lives of soldiers and civilians.
Driverless trucks could save one Army Driver's life a day. Jessica Lynch was a 19 year old Army truck driver.
This technology is also going to create jobs. Jobs that could be placed right here in Northern Michigan
American Industrial Magic's 2007 DARPA Urban Challenge Team in Traverse City, Michigan has been working on developing driverless vehicles for the race and has received recognition for its work in past driverless vehicle challenges. Team members have been interviewed on TV and documentary films. Articles about the team's work have appeared in Popular Science, New Scientist and other publications.
AIM team members will wait tables and take food orders on October 22nd at G's Pizza 1500 N. US 31, (next to the state park) Traverse City, Michigan to raise the money for the trip to the race.

ABOUT DARPA Urban Challenge - DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) has sponsored two previous Grand Challenge competitions. The first was held in March 2004 and featured a 142-mile desert course but no vehicle finished. In the 2005 Grand Challenge, five autonomous vehicles completed a 132-mile desert route and "Stanley" from Stanford University was awarded the $2 million prize. The November 2007 Urban Challenge Race will test the supply trucks' ability to drive themselves safely through 60 miles of city traffic.
